When and where did you meet your husband?
Though we are from the same small town, met in a class in college. We went to different high schools so our paths never crossed until our sophomore year at The University of North Carolina in Wilmington.
How did you know he was the one?
I told him I love him first. I had never done that with another boyfriend and it actually just slipped out. I’m not sure at what moment I knew, everything just felt different with him, and it just felt real and easy.
How did he propose?
At the beach access where he lived in college and we first started hanging out. After eating at our favourite restaurant, tacos and margaritas, we went for a walk on the beach back to our spot where he proposed.
When and where did the big day take place?
Poplar Grove Plantation in Wilmington, NC. They also have trails that we like to take our dogs for walks, so to do it somewhere we go regularly felt special for us.
When did you start planning?
1 year before the wedding while I was finishing my last year of nursing school!
Where did you get your dress?
The Wedding Dress Shoppe, Wilmington NC.
Is that the sort of dress you thought you would go for or was it a surprise?
It was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I wanted something sleek that was light, with an open back. The dress hit all the highlights.
Who came dress shopping with you?
It was just my mom and me. I knew she would give me real opinions and I did not want too many opinions thrown at me all at once.
Where did you get your bridesmaid dresses?
What style of maids and groomsmen did you go for?
Laid back, dressy casual look.
How did you arrive at the ceremony?
The bridesmaids and mother’s and I took private SUVs from the hair salon.
Did you have anything unusual during the ceremony?
No, our ceremony was traditional. That is something I was very adamant about.
How did you accessorise to make your wedding day look unique?
It was a Farmhouse rustic look with a lot of fresh fruit as decoration. Our Labrador, Finnley, was incorporated into a lot of the inspiration such as the wedding favours, cake topper, and pictures that were used around the venue: he wasn’t at the ceremony unfortunately, he’s a hyper lab, and with a white dress and dirt… we figured it probably wasn’t a smart idea.
What was the inspiration or colour theme for your wedding?
Our favourite colour is blue. So we did different shades of blue with a lot of yellow accents.
What kind of food did you have? Cake?
We had a station style set up with everything from shakes and grits to prime rib.
We had a pink champagne cake with fresh strawberry buttercream. We also had cupcakes and cake pops with other flavours suchs as: key lime with raspberry buttercream, chocolate pound cake with chocolate buttercream, peanut butter banana chocolate chip with peanut butter buttercream, and peach with an apricot buttercream. The cupcakes and cake pops were gone so quickly we didn’t even get to them! So they must have been good!
What tips do you have for new brides picking their wedding dress?
Don’t take a lot of people take the people that matter the most and who you know will give you an honest opinion.
Where were your photos taken?
My bridal portraits were taken at The Forte Institute. Their office is a mansion on the Intracoastal Waterway with the most amazing views!
What was your favourite moment from the day?
Saying my vows to my husband. Our dating anniversary is also our wedding anniversary, June 2nd. So to be promising a lifetime to him on that day is definitely the most memorable part.
